Prefabricated box-type substations are crucial for user terminal power distribution, and their stable and reliable operation is paramount. However, due to various reasons, automatic tripping frequently occurs in these substations. This is a self-protection mechanism of the prefabricated box-type substation, ensuring timely power disconnection in case of a fault to prevent greater losses.

Below is a simple analysis of the troubleshooting steps for box-type substation tripping faults:

1. 10kV Line Tripping

When the 10kV switch side trips, start the troubleshooting from the tripped switchgear. First, check the protection device's operation information to preliminarily determine the cause of the fault. If no abnormalities are found, then check the tripped switch body's opening and closing status, the switch's energy storage status, and the condition of the primary equipment inside the cabinet. If all the above checks are normal, further check whether the switch's secondary circuit is normal, and whether the switch status and position indicators are normal.

Remember: If forced restoration is necessary, ensure that the protection signal is reset before energizing.

2. Low-voltage side switch tripping in prefabricated substations

The tripping of the low-voltage main switch in a prefabricated substation is usually caused by three reasons: cascading tripping due to a low-voltage outgoing line fault, busbar fault, or switch malfunction. When the low-voltage side main switch of a prefabricated substation trips, a detailed inspection of the primary and secondary equipment on the low-voltage side is necessary to determine the possible cause of the tripping. If the protection on the low-voltage side of the prefabricated substation trips, the cause can be determined by checking the protection operation. If the low-voltage side overcurrent protection trips, the cause of the fault can be further determined by checking whether the three-stage protection settings of the switch are reasonable. If the cause of the fault still cannot be found, a withstand voltage test should be performed on the low-voltage switchgear using a megohmmeter. If no abnormality is found, a trial power-on operation can be performed. After successful trial power-on, carefully observe the equipment operation; immediately disconnect the switch if any abnormality is found. If the trial power-on fails, a comprehensive inspection and testing of the equipment is required to find the cause of the fault.
